Hello lovely Patrons! I’m having a quick break from practising the violin and I’m making my seasonal postcards to send out. These feature a glorious winter sunset at my local beach!
I’m currently practising like crazy, as yesterday I was asked by a TV production company to take part in a documentary about the violinist, Joseph Emidy, who was originally from Africa, became a slave and ended up living in Cornwall. He was a talented violinist and a composer, but sadly, none of his music survived!
I have been asked to play some music he may well have played himself, the Violin Concerto in A minor by Viotti. I’ve never played it before, hence the practising! I only need to play an extract from it, but I need to be prepared! The programme will be called ‘One Thousand Years of Slavery’, and will go out on Channel 5 and the Smithsonian channel in the US! This is very exciting, and I wanted to share my news with you first! Thanks, as always, for your support! xxx
Wishing all of my wonderful team of Patrons a very peaceful Christmas and thanks so much to every one of you for the kindness and support that you have given me on my musical journey! This watercolour painting was the illustration which accompanied my December poem, and was my Poetry Postcard this month. It features St Michael’s Mount which is illuminated over the festive season. Here’s to more music and creativity next year! X
Hello lovely Patrons! I wish you all a very peaceful and happy new year! I’ve spent the morning playing the solo piano version of ‘Initial Bond’, which is the music I wrote for my Dad, incorporating his initials into the melody. The music I wrote on the piano encompasses the whole range of the piano and was very different in style to my other piano pieces. So much so, I asked a concert pianist, John Thomson, to record it for me on my album, ‘Between Worlds’.
Yesterday would have been my Dad’s 90th birthday, had he lived, and so I felt inspired to play this music through. It’s quite a handful of notes! However, since I’ve been upping my game on the piano, I’ve decided to practise the music and play it myself, going forward. I asked for the music of the complete works of Chopin for Christmas, so this will be good training!
I do feel as though my vocation is to write music for people, it’s such a special and personal thing to do. I’ve started a piece for my mom, who was 90 recently.
Today, my ‘Red Right Hand’ single is released! This is another exciting venture! I feel that there is just so much to do! This month, I’ll also be working on a video for Trevor, and this year I will be arranging a special piece of music for Edna.
The day started out quite dark and rainy, but by the time I’d finished playing, the sun was streaming through the window and lighting up the music on the piano! A good omen I hope! Lots of love to you all, and here’s to a productive and inspiring year ahead! xxx
This is the best time of year for me to sit at the piano and compose (most often in my pyjamas!). It’s a dark morning and the rain is lashing against the windows, I’m armed with both cups of tea and coffee, and I’m brimming with ideas!
I’ve written music for my dad and nan, and for my friend Veronica. I’ve composed two pieces of music for Edna, with a third piece waiting in the wings. I feel so inspired creating music for people! My mom was 90 this year, and yesterday I had the idea of writing some music for her, and this morning I’ve created the theme by translating her name ‘Dorothy’ into music notes. My mom and I have had the kind of relationship that many moms and daughters have, we have really had our ups and downs over the years, but this year we have become very close and we bought her a keyboard for her birthday and I’ve started teaching her the piano! Music has the power to heal and to bring happiness into people’s lives. Thank you for supporting me and I promise you will have the Red Right Hand MP3 next! I was just excited to let you know that I’m writing something new! X
