Hi everyone! Here is a video we made recently in Menabilly, a beautiful place near Fowey, and which was once home to the writer, Daphne du Maurier.
The headland has gorgeous views across St Austell Bay, and is a very special place for us, as it was Phil’s dad’s favourite place, and where they spent many happy family holidays.
It was very poignant to return to this location, and seemed fitting to use my track ‘Remembrance’ as the music to go with the footage. It is such a peaceful place – apart from a very exuberant dog called ‘Murphy’ who delighted in jumping all over us after he had been swimming in the sea!
As I sat on a rock, I could imagine Phil with his parents and sister spending a day on the beach, climbing rocks and eating a picnic. Although times change, Cornwall remains unspoilt. I love the work of Daphne du Maurier, and it was wonderful to imagine the view she looked upon as she gained inspiration for her work as a writer:
“If only there could be an invention that bottled up a memory, like scent. And it never faded, and it never got stale. And then, when one wanted it, the bottle could be uncorked, and it would be like living the moment all over again.” Daphne du Maurier, from her novel, ‘Rebecca’.
Hope you enjoy it! X
